School kitchen staff in Manchester
DBS-checked cooks and catering assistants for Greater Manchester MATs.
Why hire education staff in Manchester?
Greater Manchester has over 1,100 state-funded schools across primary, secondary, and special education, grouped across a growing set of multi-academy trusts, with Trafford, Stockport and Salford among the most concentrated catchments for school catering. Each of those schools needs a kitchen running five days a week, term-time, with a fixed 11:30 or 12:00 lunch window that does not move when the cook calls in sick. School catering is the least forgiving sickness-cover market we work in: the window is tight, the DBS bar is non-negotiable, and the food has to meet the School Food Standards 2015 regardless of who is behind the stove.
Our Manchester education bench is built specifically for this. Every chef holds Enhanced DBS with Child Barred List check, KCSIE-aligned safeguarding training, and working knowledge of the School Food Standards. The sector page at education staffing overview sets out the full compliance model, and our DBS-checked kitchen staff page covers how we run the vetting pipeline. 500+ placements per month across Chefs Bay's UK operations, with education cover concentrated heavily into term-time weekday mornings.

How fast can we get staff to your manchester site?
For schools inside M1, M2, M3 and M4 we commit a named, DBS-checked chef within two hours of your call. Outside that core, across Trafford, Stockport, Bolton, Oldham, Tameside and Salford, the honest response window is up to 24 hours; in practice a 06:30 sickness call will usually see a chef on-site in time for the 11:30 lunch window, but the commitment is 24 rather than 2. For planned bookings (maternity cover, long-term absence, half-term refits) we expect a week's lead time and will shortlist accordingly. Full scope on our 2-hour response guarantee page.
What a recent Manchester education booking looked like
A Trafford primary school inside a four-school MAT, Tuesday 06:45 in term-time. The school cook phoned the MAT catering manager to say they had been up all night with their child and could not come in. The lunch service was 12:15 for 210 pupils, including 18 allergen-flagged meals and a Halal provision tray. The MAT catering manager called our Manchester line at 06:58. We confirmed a named school cook (Enhanced DBS, two years of MAT primary experience, familiar with the Trafford MAT menu spec) at 07:35. The chef arrived on-site at 09:40, briefed on the allergen register and Halal provision in 20 minutes, and served 210 lunches at 12:15 with no allergen errors. The MAT has since added the chef to their standing relief roster across all four schools.
